Accessibility

The World Congress should be inclusive for everyone.

To make this happen, Inclusion International follows our Listen Include Respect guidelines.

We wrote them to make sure organisations know how to include people with intellectual disabilities in their work.

We also follow the Listen Include Respect guidelines in our own work, like when we plan conferences.

These are our guidelines about making conferences inclusive.

Some of the things we are doing to make sure the programme includes everyone is:

  • Having a self-advocate as the co-leader of the Programme Committee - this is the group that will plan the programme and make sure everything is inclusive.

  • Having self-advocates who are experts on Listen Include Respect as part of the Programme Committee and the Logistics Committee to give advice

  • Making sure that the information about leading a session is easy to understand, so there can be lots of sessions led by self-advocates.

  • Making sure that the way we describe different sessions is easy to understand

  • Making sure that the final programme is easy to understand

  • Giving training to all speakers at the World Congress to make sure they understand how to speak in an easy to understand way

  • Setting rules for the speakers about making sure their materials (like slides) are accessible
